
We invited Central Ohio K–12 students to join Keepers of the Culture, a youth art challenge exploring Columbus’s Black history. Students researched a local Black leaders and create original 2D artworks honoring their impact. Winning student artworks will appear in the Keepers Of the Culture Keepsake book and on the vinyl fence installation during construction of The Poindexter Village African American Museum.

Poindexter Village Afrofuturism Poetry Competition, a citywide challenge encouraging K–12 students to write poetry and explore Afrofuturism.
The Community Through Our Lens Youth Art Challenge produced an 18-month calendar honoring artist Kojo Kamau and the historic Long Street Cultural Wall. Featuring photographs by Central Ohio students, the project captures Columbus through their perspectives while highlighting historic landmarks and preserving the city’s cultural story.
Poindexter Village Windows of Stories Celebration and Awards Ceremony: Columbus City Schools students created artwork honoring the history and legacy of Poindexter Village. Selected pieces will be displayed in the museum’s windows during renovations. The contest received 145 entries from over 20 schools, and the May 9 event will celebrate the students and the community’s history.
